Sava 334-cü ildə Buzau çayı vadisində yerləşən bir kənddə anadan olmuşdur. O, indiki Rumıniyanın Valaxiya bölgəsində yaşamış və gənclik illərində xristianlığı qəbul etmişdir. Onun agioqrafiyasında qeyd edilmişdir ki, Sava irqinə görə qot idi.
Savanın şəhadət günü Roma əzabkeşliyində 12 aprel, Ortodoks Kilsəsində isə 15 apreldir. Pravoslav Kilsəsi onu "müqəddəs, şanlı və haqlı qalib Böyük Şəhid Sava" kimi xatırlayır.
